How have you been?
Today's blogpost is all about the Hijabfashionweek South Africa, the ins, outs and even a bit of history (:
Hijabfashionweek is happening all
over the world, everyone all over social media is waiting in anticipation for
those fashion pics to be uploaded, excited for all the Eid collections. Yep
modest fashion is trending big time, long coats, capes, skirts, dresses,
turbans, draped scarfs you name it. Modest fashion is taking the world by storm, it's growing so rapidly across the globe, it's not only Muslims but people
of different beliefs, different backgrounds all speaking the same language of
modesty.
So I had the
privilege of attending yet another fashion show held by Fabulous in Hijab on Sunday the 22nd of May, it was
at the perfect venue for a fashion show, the Nico Malan Hall in Observatory.
Hijab Fashionweek South Africa
started with the first show with approximately 75 ladies, now over 240
at their 3rd Annual event. "Years ago Abashiya saw the gap in South Africa
and she filled it" As told by the host of the show Gadijah Khan also
Abashiya's sister. Personally I can already see this event going bigger
and better each year, In Sha Allah. Gadijah was a fabulous host and did I
mention they a family of designers, Gadijah also has her own fashion label GKD
and their younger sister Najla from Sayahn-leathers sells thee most beautiful
shoes and leather bags, go check them out.
So why Hijab Fashionweek?
Like
where was I all this time? How did I not know of all these incredible talented
designers, I used to go from shop to shop then mall to mall and still I wasn't
satisfied with my Eid outfit because these shops don't cater for us muslimahs.
I love it when my things match and especially on a day like Eid a person want
to look different than other days but still look decent
and modest for the special day right? So that's all made easier for us, everything
in one building from accessories, scarfs ,shoes, makeup, perfume and even
bags, you could all get it at the Hijab Fashionweek.
Not only do we see and shop what
we like but also mingle and meet new interesting people and build new
relationships. Just before I left I had chats with the lovely ladies from Hiddentreasers and Sugar Rush ,they
had their pop up shops at the event.
About the show....
After a yummy breakfast
the show started of the right way, because it's only with the help and dua's of
the Almighty that these things are possible. Opening dua was made
by the beautiful Fatimah Khan, Gadijah's daughter, Ma Sha Allah.
Then a very interesting talk by Rogeema Kenny, now she's an
an inspiration to Muslimahs, the first time I saw Rogeema was on
the television show An Nur the light, they did a personal profile about her and
what she does and that name stuck with me. She's one busy lady, besides
being an Electrical Engineer she's also a triathlete, a blogger, she
belongs to different organisations empowering women, a public speaker and loves
to empower women to go after their dreams, she believe you should not let
society tell you otherwise and that you can't do it ,follow your dreams. It was actually so nice to see her in person. (She's also co-author of the book Empower). Then
we couldn't stop the laughter, jokes by the funniest lady Shimmy Isaacs, she
made the atmosphere live and jolly with her jokes.

Then there was the prize giving, lovely prizes and goodies from the designers, wish my name was drawn. How cute is the little girl helping Gadijah?
